Overview
Silent Hello helps you send a quiet daily presence signal (“Hello”) to trusted people. We collect only the data needed to provide the core app features: sign-in, connecting to other users, sending the daily signal, and allowing you to export or delete your data.
What we collect
Depending on how you use the app, we may collect and store:
- Account information: email address (if you create an email account) or an anonymous account ID.
- Profile nickname: a display name you choose (e.g. “Dad”, “Nan”).
- Daily signal records: the date and timestamp when you send a Hello. This does not include message content.
- Connection data: who is connected to whom (sender/viewer link).
- Invites and requests: invite codes you generate and connection requests/approval status.
What we do not collect
- No precise location tracking and no background location.
- No contacts upload (we don’t access your address book).
- No message content beyond a simple “Hello sent” signal.
How your data is used
- To sign you in and secure your account.
- To show your connected viewers whether you’ve sent today’s Hello.
- To manage invites/requests so you control who can view your signal.
- To improve reliability and fix bugs (see Firebase services below).
Firebase services
Silent Hello uses Google Firebase to operate the app, including: Authentication (sign-in), Cloud Firestore (data storage), and (if enabled in your build) optional reliability tools such as Crash reporting.
Firebase processes data on our behalf to provide these services.
Sharing and visibility
Your nickname and today’s Hello status are visible only to people you have connected with (approved access). You can remove access by deleting the connection (or deleting your account).
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account remains active so the app can function. You can delete your account at any time to permanently remove your stored data.
Data access, export, and deletion
You can export your data and delete your account inside the app. Export produces a data pack (summary and JSON) that you can save or share. Deleting your account removes your stored records from our Firebase database where possible and then deletes your authentication account.
Security
We use Firebase security rules and authenticated access controls to protect your data. No method of storage is 100% secure, but we aim to use reasonable safeguards to prevent unauthorized access.
Children
Silent Hello is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do.
